With the world in such a tumultuous state most of the time, it’s becoming much harder to find peace, but peace is possible.

Peace is not something tangible, it costs nothing, and it is attainable for anyone. Peace is something that comes from within and we are the only ones who can bring peace to ourselves and others.

In honor of Peace Day, lets set our egos aside and spend today finding that inner peace and sharing it with the world.

Meditations and yoga are just a couple of things that can bring inner peace, but it doesn’t stop at the end of the a meditation or yoga session. We can continue bringing peace into our lives by biting our tongue a little more, sharing love where we can, and having hope in our world and its people.

Finding that peace within yourself is the first step to changing the world.

Speaking of new projects….

Falling into Fall

The temperatures are falling, the apples are falling, and soon it will be the leaves falling from the trees. Sadly, summer is nearing the end. The kids are all returning to school and my thoughts are beginning to turn to inside projects. I have been cooking much more and even thinking of new sewing projects.

Some visual therapy…

After a stressful month, I have been finding it hard to get back to my old self. I find myself wandering through the days in a weird zone, feeling little and that is not like me. I am a very passionate person, but I haven’t been able to stir that old passion…. until yesterday that is.

It’s been a long time since I have created a treasury on Etsy. Since they switched over to the new treasury system. So yesterday I decided to create a treasury and it took off from there. I found something that really touched me deeper than most of the things I had tried lately. I don’t know if it is the pure eye candy that you can find on Etsy, or if it is searching for the right products that fit into the current mood that I was feeling as the creator and presenting it in one lovely group of items that speak from my heart.

Whatever it is, it worked! I felt some passion and my creative gears started feeling inspired and rejuvenated. Now, I won’t go as far as to say that I am my old self again.

I know that I will probably never be who I was before the accident with my daughter and I can accept that, but to find a new place of comfort within my self and my life would be wonderful.

So the first treasury I started with was this one… I was inspired by the warm summer days and the colors just drew me in.

Once I finished the first one, I knew I had to create one that went back to my roots. Etsy has some of the most amazing designer of children’s boutique clothing and the photography is simply enchanting. So I filled my treasury and my soul with these lovely bits of visual therapy. Some of the designers are some that I frequently designed with in the early days of Etsy and the late days of eBay.

Finally, I was so caught up in the beauty of the photography and the items in Boutique Kids treasury, that I couldn’t get it out of my mind. As I was reading before bed, I read something that inspired me to create one last treasury before I went to bed. This one is called Contemplate the Flowers. If we could all spend more time living our lives like flowers and just allowing things to be what they are, we could find more happiness in our lives and therefore, my inspired treasury:)

Who knew I would find so much pleasure in gathering snippets of other designers’ items for sale and creating a collection that is cohesive and visually appealing, but I did! I found great pleasure and peace in this and I wanted to share them with you.

Where is Summer?

As I sit here writing this blog post, I can hear the thunder rumbling outside and the rain pounding down. I know that moisture is a good thing, but all things in moderation. Right?

I found this picture in my archives. It’s from last summer when we were enjoying lovely warm temperatures and days of sunshine. I long for summer and a more moderate season.

While I wait, I think I will start some new sewing projects. The girls need some new summer dresses!

Gratitude…….

I received an email today asking me if gratitude had benefited my life……

Gratitude has played a big role in my life for some time now and it has changed the way I look at the world.

A couple of weeks ago, my family experienced one of the most traumatizing experiences we have had in our lives, and gratitude was one of the things that pulled me through. To pay it forward, I wanted to share my experience with you and share the ways that gratitude has helped us through this trying time.

Two Saturdays ago, my daughter was almost killed and it was a huge blessing that everything turned out the way that it did. So what am I grateful for?

Well…. I am grateful that my husband was in the right place at the right time. I am grateful that he didn’t think before he acted and that another friend was there to help. I am grateful for the family that pulled together to help in the time of need and that the best surgeons and doctors were on call that night. I am also grateful that God gave me more time with my daughter and that I have this opportunity to re-evaluate my life and priorities to make more of each day and each moment.

My daughter’s life was saved and she will recover. My family is still whole and we can find a way to move past this trauma. I am so grateful for my family and the life that we have together. I choose to see the world through new eyes and find the good in things.

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. (Proverb)

There’s not a lot you can get for 5 bucks anymore is there? A gallon of gas is almost 5 bucks, a couple cups of good coffee will run you over 5 bucks. Maybe one of those pre-made pepperoni pizzas will be 5 bucks (before taxes of course!) But you can get the eBook pattern to make these.

I remember when I was a child and my grandma would give me a quarter and tell me to get something for myself. Ha, could you imagine that now? I don’t even think they sell penny candy anymore. Over the past couple of months I have been working to format my eBooks to the Kindle formatting, so that I could download them to my mobile phone.

I have Adobe’s PDF view on my Android, but I also wanted to be able to download them to my Kindle and I am pleased to announce that my eBook patterns are becoming available on Amazon Kindle! It’s been a bit of a time consuming task, getting them transferred over to Kindle, but well worth it.

As always, they are available in PDF format and if your mobile device supports Adobe’s PDF viewer, then you can download them to your mobile device any time, but now you also have the option of purchasing them for your Kindle or any other device that supports Amazon’s Kindle app.

I am so excited about this, because I hate lugging my laptop everywhere and moving it around with me in the studio when I am creating patterns or using eBook patterns to create new items. So this works wonderfully for me. All I have to do is download it to my phone and I have it wherever I go.

No more making lists when I go to the store. I just look in my phone at the actual pattern supply list and there it is. I can cross reference and make sure I get what I need.

I can’t even tell you how much time this saves me!

Now you can download them immediately too, and onto any device that supports Amazon Kindle or PDF! Just remember, if you want the Kindle version, just go here. And if you want the PDF version, just go here to purchase it and then download it to your mobile device that supports PDF viewer. (You may have to download the PDF viewer from the app store first, but it’s free!)

Right now, I have a couple of the eBook patterns listed in the Kindle store, but I hope to get them all transferred over soon. I will also be formatting all of my future patterns for PDF and Kindle.

I have the Kindle app on my Android and it works wonderfully. I also like the fact that you have the option of running the Kindle app on your home computer, laptop, or mobile device.

A Scentsy Party…..

My sister just started selling Scentsy and I couldn’t be more pleased! I get to order my favorite wickless wax melters and the yummiest scents while I help my sister earn cash at the same time!

Just to give you a little refresher, in case you missed my history in candle making…. I used to manufacture candles until my 3rd child was born. Then I decided that I wanted to stay home with the kids and making candles at home with small children was not an option, because of the danger involved. So I decided to retire and try something else, (which is when I started sewing). Long story short….. Since I haven’t been making my own candles and scenting my own waxes, I have had a hard time finding quality scented waxes that have excellent scent throw. Then I found Scentsy and the rest is history.

Their waxes are high quality and the scent throw is amazing! I can start the warmer and within a few minutes the room is filled with the yummy scent and within an hour, it is making it’s way throughout the house. There are so many scents to choose from, that I have to refrain from ordering them all at once. I could easily go broke ordering scent bars;)

The best part about Scentsy, is that they are wickless! Wickless means flameless and flameless means less potential for accidental fires and such. All I can say is, they are amazing and with 5 kids running around, the last thing I need is an open flame!

Thanksgiving project for kids…..

Here is a fun project for the kiddos and it’s cute enough to display on the Thanksgiving table.

All you need is some fall colored pipe cleaner, wiggly eyes, large brown puff balls, craft foam sheets and a pine cone for each pine cone turkey. Use one of the big pine cones like you see in the photos.

Maybe you don’t have any pine cones laying around or perhaps yours are covered with snow already like mine. Then use those cinnamon scented pine cones that you can get at the craft store.

My 5 and 6 year olds made these and they are so cute!

Cookin’ it Up with AbbyChase

I promised a new recipe in my last post, unfortunately the recipe I had hoped to share didn’t turn out like I expected so I have to take it back to the kitchen for perfecting before I share it. However, I did try this recipe the other day and it is super yummy. It’s not something that I will make often, because it is time consuming, but it is a nice treat on a special day for those who have a love for yummy hearty breakfast.

Oatmeal Cookie Pancakes

1 cup Old Fashioned Oats	1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar	2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda	1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped walnuts	3/4 cup sour cream
3/4 cup milk	2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla	2 ripe bananas – mashed
3/4 cup raisins (optional)	1 stick butter (melted)

Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and chopped nuts in a bowl. In another bowl, mix the sour cream, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk the wet ingredients in the second bowl. Then mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until they are combined. Fold in the mashed bananas and raisins. Finally, stir in the melted butter.

Heat griddle and lightly oil. Then pour 1/3 cup of batter onto the hot griddle. Cook until bubbles for on the top and then turn. About 2 minutes on each side.

This is one of the yummiest pancake mixes I have ever made and it really sticks with you. Serve some bacon on the side and enjoy with a big glass of milk:)

Two new items from AbbyChase!

As promised, here are two of the newest items that I have been working on.

I have been working on these cute little seat belt covers for a while now. Since I don’t have any babies anymore, I have to wait until I see my sister and her baby to try them out. So I finally got everything worked out perfectly and they turned out adorable. There are two in the set and they fit perfectly on each of the straps in the car seat. My niece loves hers. Earlier this summer we made a long trip to Washington since my niece had some neck problems, her physical therapist had my sister keep props in her car seat that would position her correctly so she could keep her neck straight and that made those seat belts rub on her neck even more. So I made her a set of these little cuties for the long trip and it made a world of difference for her. I started thinking about how many babies get their neck rubbed on those pesky seat belts and realized that I should make them for sale. That was how they got their start:) I wish I had thought of this when my kids were babies.

Speaking of that long trip….. We took our kids on this long trip too and my kids started complaining about the seat belt rubbing on their neck, so I gave them two of my seat belt covers and they told me I should make them some too. When we got back, I started working on some smaller “kid size” seat belt covers for them. Of course I was thinking of you when kids tested them and loved them. I am sure my kids aren’t the only ones that need cushies for their seat belts too.

Both of these items would make wonderful Christmas gifts this year. You can even custom order a whole set for the family in coordinating fabrics! Just convo me in my Etsy Store and we can work out the details.

Well it’s back to the sewing machine for me now. I have some fun stuff for mom in the works. So stay tuned.

Are you listless?

As a business owner, designer, mother of 5, wife, and student; lists are an important part of my day…Let me rephrase that. Lists are the only thing that makes sense of my day and they are critical to my sanity!

Sometimes I will sit down the night before and make out my list of To Do’s for the next day and sometimes I will sit down first thing in the morning while drinking some tea and make my list for the day. I have lists of all types. For example, I have my To Do list, my short term goals, long term goals, bills, books to read, movies to watch, places to see, and on and on. I guess you could say I am a list junkie:) Without my list, I aimlessly bounce from one task to another, but at the end of the day I start to remember the important things that I should have done that day, but forgot because I hadn’t written them down.

With that said, lists are extremely important to me, but equally important is keeping my list manageable. There have been many times when I have so much that I want to do and I will write it on my To Do list. Pretty soon, my list is two pages long and totally impossible to get finished in one day. I work on a few things and the list eventually ends up mixed up with some papers in my inbox. I later find it (usually when I’m filing) and can cross off a couple of items, but nowhere near enough to call it complete. This gives me a sense of failure, because I cannot complete the list, it frustrates me and causes me to feel unnecessary stress. So my solution to that problem was the “long term” and “short term” goals list. That is where I write down the things I want to get done, but they are not pressing at the present time. The other solution to the problem is to make much smaller To Do lists. The To Do list is for stuff I need to get done TODAY only and stuff that I know I can actually accomplish in one day. This way I can check them all off, complete them all in one day and not feel overwhelmed. Looking at a much shorter list in the morning gives me confidence that I can actually complete it and it also gives me ambition to get started on it.

That’s another thing…. It’s much easier to accomplish a lot of things in a day if you start with the first thing. If I grab my list and go over it while sipping my tea first thing in the morning, I find myself accomplishing most of my list before the kids even get home from school!

Fall… Winter… Holidays… Already??

As I stood outside today, waiting for the bus to pick up my Kindergartner, I looked up on the hill behind my house and realized that the entire mountainside has changed. Fall is here! I can’t deny it any longer, FALL IS HERE!

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Fall, but it never lasts long enough here in Idaho. Before we know it, there will be snow on the ground and it will be freezing.

So I always enter Fall with a little apprehension, but the time has come, Fall is in full swing and it’s time to embrace it!

With that said…. The Holiday Season is quickly approaching and I am working on some really awesome stuff for you guys!

The past 3 weeks, I have been working hard to get some new things ready for your Holiday Gift Giving season and I am pleased to say that I have another eBook pattern that will release later this week. I also have some new items that I will be listing in my Etsy Store that will be perfect for gift giving and I am trying to narrow down a couple Create-a-Long projects that I can post here on my blog.

So, as I hurry through my never ending To-Do list trying to get lots of things ready the holidays, I am open for ideas and suggestion on what you would like to see from AbbyChase this holiday season. The kids are back in school now, which leaves me some free time to blog and get some loose ends tied up. I have been working on some new patterns and eBooks, but with the kids all running around, I never found enough minutes in the day to finish them up.

Now with all this time on my hands, I have managed to finish up the eBook I was working on over the summer and get another one started!

It all started with me…. I needed a new bag that was cute and resembled my style, so I started working on a new camera bag for me. One that would have pockets inside and a padded divider for my lenses. I loved it and used it all the time. Then I had a request for a diaper bag just like my camera bag. So I made another bag like mine in a cutesy baby print for the new mommy to be. After that, I have had several requests for more diaper bags.

So this brings me to my latest eBook:) I know there are many many mommies and photographers out there who can sew and would rather make their own, so I created the new Camera/Diaper Bag eBook. The testers loved it and it is now available in my etsy shop!

Back in business!

Sooooo………… it’s been a hectic summer already. The kids have already been out of school for almost a month and it doesn’t seem like it.

We recently moved and I had to close my shop to everything except e-books while we moved. Besides the constant rain, the move went well and now we are getting settled. It’s so nice to relax in the country again. I have missed it so.

Here’s a peek at what beauty all the rain has provided us.I just love the colors and blooms finally showing their beautiful face. Anyway, my shop is open again and those who have patiently awaited the return of the ever famous Incognito Wallets, they are back in stock and I’ve got some more to list this month. Customs are always welcome too!

So now that we are back in business, what’s next? Well, it’s definitely cute, cool and fun for the little ones:) That’s all I can say for now, but there is more to come and I promise, all the little mammas will love them!

NovaScotiaBeachGlass is the creation of Lori Stewart who collects seaglass from the beaches of Nova Scotia. She hunts the beach with her black lab, Willow, looking for beach glass, seaglass, driftwood and any other treasures the sea might reveal to her. She turns these treasures into lovely works of wearable art: pendants and necklaces.
Lori told me that beach glass is also called seaglass or mermaid’s tears. "This collectible is formed after years of tumbling in ocean waves, softening the sharp edges of shards of broken glass. Sea glass originates from man-made trash - bottles or jars tossed overboard ships or dumped with other garbage into the ocean, where they would break into pieces and tumble around. Most sea glass found today dates before the mid 1960's (when plastics became the norm). A perfectly smooth piece may have been in the ocean for decades, even a century. Collectors value the glass for its beauty and the mystery of its history - whose hand might have held the original item? What story might the sea glass tell?"
Lori appreciates the history and romance of her chosen material. She says there is nothing so soothing as to handle seaglass. In addition to her interest in recycling the vintage seaglass, Lori also expresses her artistic nature using resin. While she is always experimenting with new designs, this year she would like to improve her jewelry photography.

Shop of the Week: SouthPawStudios

Our EtsyTwitter Team Shop of the Week is South Paw Studios, which offers handcrafted jewelry by Toledo, Ohio artist Katy Mims. She not only makes necklaces, bracelets and earrings, but she has a unique bridal line. Her styles incorporate faceted gems, Venetian glass, pearls and precious metal. As she puts it, it "brings the jewelry to life."
Here is my interview with Katy!
Me: What do you want your customers to know most about your products?
Katy: I feel that I offer functional jewelry that you can wear everyday with jeans and a simple white t-shirt, yet you can wear it to a formal function if preferred. I don’t want my customer to seem pressed on the thought of “I love this necklace, but where am I going to wear it?” I want them to be more, “I love this necklace, and I can wear it with anything”. I want there to be “No Fuss”. Jewelry shouldn’t be complicated, it should be enjoyable. That is why I feel I create jewelry that is much more appealing and affordable to a wider range of woman, from the younger jewelry lover to the seasoned shopper.
Me: What inspires you to create?
Katy: I get inspiration from everything from a shower curtain, to sunsets. I know that sounds cliché, but really there are great color combinations in sunsets. I also get my muse from new supplies. I really have an addiction to beads and gems. I buy way to much stuff, but I just cant help myself. Having new supplies really keeps me excited to sit at my work bench for hours on end.
Me: What is your favorite thing about your craft?
Katy: This question is tricky, but when I sit down and think about it, one of my favorite things about my craft is it is very competitive, but that keeps me on my toes. I like a little friendly competition. With jewelry, I love that everyone can take part in this particular medium. It is a little piece of wearable art that you can take with you and wear with pride every day, to work or even the grocery store. It makes art become functional. I love that it is an appealing part of the art world that seems to be able to survive even in the hardest of times.
Me: What are your Twitter tricks of the trade?
Katy: I really don’t have time to log in and out of all the accounts I use online on a daily basis, so I use Facebook, primarily to twitter from. I used to use Tweetdeck, but it started to have some glitches a little while back, and I just couldn’t seem to find the right patch. I am sure it is fixed by now, but again, TIME! So anyways, I linked my Facebook fan page to my Twitter account and “whola” I get two birds with one stone (no birds were actual harmed in this sentence) and only have to type something once. I may not seem like much, but it is a time saver for me and works just great.
Me: What is one of your business resolutions for the New Year?
Katy: I really want to beat each month’s sales, compared to last years, and have my profit margin higher as well. To achieve this I feel a combo of getting more money per piece, and as well as tighten down on my expenses / cost of goods sold (COGS) will help me reach my 2010 business new year’s resolution.

Spring is peaking…………..

It’s been a busy year already and the freezing temperatures are trying my patience, but spring is trying to show its beautiful face. The snow started to melt the other day and then we had a big snowstorm, but the freezing temperatures seem to be a slow fading memory. The warmer days are coming and I welcome them with open arms!

Speaking of beautiful faces…. my little niece showed her beautiful face to the world for the first time last week. She was perfect and everything went really well. Here is picture of her lovely little face:)

On another note, I have gone back to school this year working on my degree in graphic design. While it’s extremely time consuming and stressful, it is so much fun. I have had so much fun learning new things and having an opportunity to push myself in directions that I may have never explored before. I am working on a few things to add to my designs and offer to you all. I will keep you posted as the details unfold.

Our shop of the week for January 25-31 is from Northern California. When shopping in Wellspring Creations you will find beautiful pieces of jewelry that combine lovely stones or crystals with wire: necklaces, bracelets/cuffs, earrings, and rings.
Judy, owner and designer of Wellspring Creations, shows her love for taking a straight piece of wire and turning it into something unique. "With wire and a lovely stone, my imagination simply blooms and I get to play with symmetry, asymmetry, and geometric design."
She would like all of our readers to know that "I find unusual stones; sometimes beads (with a drilled hole) or cabochons (a flattened, polished stone with no hole). Many of my finds come from only one mine in the whole world! I consider the stone and how best to wrap it so that the stone is secure and the setting shows off the stone, rather than overwhelms it. I prefer using natural stones and high quality wire, mostly sterling silver, but often work with fine (nearly pure) silver, copper, and 14K gold filled wire. Since I put a lot of time and consideration into each piece, I prefer the components to be high quality, so they last well. I try to make every piece an heirloom." Her designs ship internationally so everyone can enjoy one of her beautiful pieces of work!
One of the things I love about Judy is that she is always tweeting about her team members sales and the Etsy Twitter Team's important information. She is always Direct Messaging her fellow tweeter's just to see how they are doing. When asked about how she uses twitter and her tricks she told me: "My followers are my Twitter friends. I follow people that I find interesting and engage in conversations. I think of Twitter as a cocktail party: I go to meet new people, touch bases with old friends and, occasionally, talk about my work. Most of my tweets are comments or responses to other people's tweets. I retweet when it's something I personally find interesting or think others would. I sometimes tweet about my work process--what movie I'm watching while I wrap a pendant; if the light/weather is good enough to photograph my work on a particular day; and a few times a week I tweet a link to an item in my shop. I probably tweet links to others' items a bit more than my own to provide some variety and introduce folks to other handmade artists in a gracious way."
Judy's new years resolution for her store is to work on her photographs so that they "look as good as the jewelry I'm trying to photograph! This is often reflected in feedback from clients delighted how much better their purchase looks in their hand than the picture they saw in the Etsy listing!"

What are they??? Seat Belt Covers for adults!

I am so excited about these and have been perfecting my design and filling custom orders since my lovely friend Laurie Burkart from Burkart Farms mentioned it this past summer when she mistook one of my other items for a seat belt cover. Genius! I have been complaining about my seat belt rubbing on my neck for years, but had I thought to make one for myself? Nope, not before she said something, but after that…… I have been on a mission to create the design get every boring old seat belt covered in beauty! So I have to give credit for this wonderful idea to her. Thanks Laurie:)

Each cover is 13 1/4" long and 3 1/8" wide when snapped (6 1/4" when open flat) and will fit most standard size seatbelts. They have snap closure for convenience and are lined with a thick cushy fleece liner for comfort.

They are available in an array of designs for both men and women and make excellent gifts for the people on your list this year!

I have started listing them in my etsy store, but I am up for any custom order that you can think of.

This was the Kyoko pattern by Patty from Modkid Boutique that I tested in early spring. Since the release of Patty’s patterns, I have received a lot of buzz about the samples and extra buzz about this particular one.

I thought a blog post was in order.

The fun print that I used with Patty’s fabric was one that I picked up a few years ago. It was one of those that sits there waiting patiently for it’s moment to shine. Well this turned out to be it and there are so many people want to get this fabric now. It’s an Alexander Henry print, called Picnic (or I’ve also seen it called Retro Fruit). I did some digging and it appears to be hard to find. I did find a little on Etsy and EBay, but other than that I didn’t have much luck. Some of you out there may have so good sources for “out of print” prints and if you do happen to find some sources, I would love to update my blog to help everyone out (and maybe pick up a little more for myself). So send your sources my way:)

Anyway, thanks so much to all of my supporters for all of the praise. It truly makes my day:)

Summer fun………

Wow, this summer has slipped by so fast, I feel like I completely missed it. It’s already time for school to start and soon the snow will start to fly.

I did however, snag a ton of pictures. Getting them uploaded is another story, lol. Anyway, here are a few from our summer activities.

This first set is actually from one of the last of the summer activities in our town. There is a 3 day parade, a rodeo, and lots of shopping. We took our kids to the end of the parade and people were throwing so much candy, the kids each ended up with grocery bags full of candy! Needless to say, they were on sugar overdose for days.

The truth is that most of us would love to be “greener” on a daily basis if we knew exactly how to do it. The old “paper or plastic” question we used to get at the grocery store has become far more complicated and it can be difficult to know what choices are truly better for our planet. A good example of this is the actual answer to paper vs. plastic, which is NEITHER as both cost the planet in terms of resources, landfills, and energy use. A better choice is to buy or make reusable grocery or market totes, like these here.

I am finally catching my breath this week. Wow, this summer has turned out to be anything but boring. I can’t complain though. I spent some time with my lovely sister, who I wish didn’t live so far away. I spent some much needed down time camping with my family. I can’t even believe how much I enjoy getting out there and having no electronic services. My cell doesn’t even work and it leaves me with nothing to do, but decompress.

School is almost back in and that excites and frightens me at the same time. The kids grow so fast. I still need to get the family out and do some family pictures before the summer ends, but that seems to take the back burner.

Anyway…. I have some photos that I have been meaning to share with you for some time, but the slow computer issue really had to take a back seat to much more pressing issues this summer. So here are some of the photos I have been stockpiling for a slow day to share.

I did some pattern testing for Patty at ModKid Boutique in June and I have to tell you…. This pattern is amazing. There are three different styles and sizes go up to 7, so most of you who sew will find this pattern useful for someone you know. The pattern was very easy to read and use. I love the flat front waistband and there are so many possibilities. I mixed up some of the pockets and had some fun with it.

Now that the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming, I am aching to get out there and photograph much more. And after the excitement my little girls felt when they saw that they were published in the new ModKid pattern, I feel it is a natural addition to our services.

My extended family has been wondering where I've disappeared to this past month. This is one of the many projects I have been working on and I promised my family I would explain where I have been hiding.

One of my projects included some pattern testing for Patty (aka ModKid Boutique) on her Kyoko pattern and the weather was beautiful that week. So for the first time this year, I got the girls out for an outdoor photo shoot. There was still a little snow on the ground and some mud, so we headed over to a tennis court in town and the girls had a blast. They didn't have the nets up yet, so they could just run wild in the court. They loved it, and I got some really great photos too!

I have a couple other projects that I will share, but they aren't quite ready for release;)

As my younger children grow, I find myself less upset by the small stuff. So when they do something that is fairly annoying, like pounding in the flour and creating a huge cloud of dust, or using their skin as their canvas, I run for my camera before I do any scolding. So today my daughter chomped down on a pen and ended up with ink oozing out of the pen.

Well, this was a perfect opportunity to make some art on her skin and her sister's skin too. They made all kinds of pretty pictures on their hands and legs.

When I discovered their little project, I started ranting about the poisons of ink, the stains that will never come out, and the clothes that will have to be thrown in the garbage. Then my youngest says, "Mom! Take a picture of me!"

What have I done?!*!* Did I teach them that it's cool to make a mess?

Needless to say, I didn't reach for the camera, and I will think more carefully next time I reach for the camera.

Finally, I cut into it and created this fun little Euro dress that I had originally planned to offer it as a ready made item, but when I finished it, I was in love with it. When all the commotion about the CPSIA began, I was forced to take a step back and evaluate things a little. Do I continue to pour my efforts into my children's clothing line or do I focus on other areas of my expertise and build them?

I decided I wasn't going to wait until February for the new laws to decide my fate, but I couldn't just give up on a dream that I have been building for quite some time.

As I mentioned before, I started a group to bring together a united community of children's handmade creators. This seems to be going well and all of the efforts made by countless individuals seem to be paying off. There have been some changes made to the law, but as of now, it will still be forcing businesses like mine to test children's items. (in other words... stop creating and selling children's items)

So in my time away, I have been working on some e-book ideas for those of you who sew and tirelessly building my photography business. I have had a shop open on Etsy for a little while featuring some of my photos, but through the holidays and the past couple weeks, I have been loading new photos and even opened a couple new stores. My photography brings me great joy and is also something that my husband finds very satisfying, so this brings a whole new depth of satisfaction.

I'm certainly not giving up on the fight to save children's handmade community, or on my first love of sewing children's clothing, but I am spending more time with camera in hand.

In the next few weeks we will finally see what will come of the children's handmade community and my business for that matter. So for now, I will leave you with a link to a giveaway I'm hosting on my photo blog.

Reflections........

I could swear it was only July yesterday, but I guess it really has been that long. I feel a little nostalgic as I reflect back on 2008. I had some really great times this past year and I think I learned more this year than in my entire 4 years in high school. Well, maybe not, but it definitely seems like it.

This year, I learned that the world if filled with very talented business women, who's main focus is staying at home with their children, but have soooo much to offer the world and the internet has allowed for them (myself included) to pursue a hobby, a dream, and a business. It's been so exciting and satisfying to see so many of my online friends branch out and try new things and see their dreams become a reality. I have also watched some of my own dreams become reality and it excites and fulfills my heart.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you a very prosperous 2009.

A Handmade Christmas.........

Well it wasn't a 100% handmade Christmas, but it was definitely dominated by the "handmade" theme. This isn't a surprise or much of a stretch for my sweet husband and me, but it is something to reflect on for sure.

I fulfilled some requests for Incognito Wallets for some friends and family and made some clothing and cute hair accessories for the kids, but that isn't far out of the norm here. What I really wanted to share with you are the other handmade items we gave to family members. (and some really cool ones we received too)

My sweet husband is the real artist in the family. (and he might be mad at me for posting this as he is quite modest) He is the one who makes the jewelry that I occasionally offer here and in my Etsy store, but that is only the tip of the ice berg. He currently works in the cabinetry industry outside of is painting profession and he is currently having a love affair with wood. Back in August, he decided he would try Wood Carving and see how he liked it. Well, if you know anything about him, you know that he doesn't just "try" something. Anyway, here is what he carved for his first time

which he gave to his parents for Christmas.

Then he decided to make his brother a small cedar box and here is what he came up with using some reclaimed wood.

and it wasn't really that "small" either.

We also received some really amazing gifts that were handmade. I had a Secret Santa exchange with some of the girls in Trendy Textiles and I got the cutest stuff from Island Girl.

and some of the coolest picture frames. My sweet husband's friend makes frames and he has been fulfilling all of my frame dreams this past month.

Here is just one that he built and then my sweet husband put the rustic finish on it.

Could we be saying goodbye?

After all the times we had together, could this really be it? I hesitated posting on this topic, because there is so much unknown still. Mostly, it's because I am in denial and I don't like posting such sadness during the holidays. I am doing what I can each day to help with the efforts to amend the law, but at the end of the day I just can't picture saying goodbye.

The fight is not over though, and I am far from giving up. There was an amazing article posted over on Boutique Cafe. If you haven't read it yet, be sure to stop over there and read it. Even if you don't own a business that will be effected by this, if you have children or grandchildren, nieces or nephews, you will be effected.

I have also joined up with a few of my favorite designers and some of the most amazing friends I have made on this journey to showcase the huge handmade community that we have. We want to show the world how important Children's Handmade is and how much it effects our lives everyday, even if we don't realize it. And if nothing more, you can see a collaboration of friends, designers, mom's, dad's, business owners, and buyers of "Children's Handmade" come together for what may be the last time to showcase their best.

If you want to join the efforts, stop by and join us. The more members we have supporting this effort, the more of an impact we will have on the world. We may be one person alone, but together, we are the "World of Children's Handmade" and we can make a difference.

I got my lovely Andalucia fabric a few weeks ago and I love love love it. I have already had many friends stop by and choose custom Incognito Wallets made with combinations of this lovely fabric. I must say, Patty has really done well. The patterns are so versatile, the colors are vibrant and work well with many other lines. Michael Miller also did wonderful with the quality. I am smitten!

I think what I love most about this fabric is the nostalgia that it creates for me. Alice in Wonderland ~~was~~ is one of my all time favorite childhood movies, and this lovely fabric stirs up fun memories of Alice, the Cheshire Cat, and that wacky Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

I haven't been able to keep my hands off of it, and I have listed one of the lovely creations for you! It would make a wonderful Valentine gift for your lovely Valentine!

I am going to try an catch up on everything that you have missed in the past month.

Lets see.... Where should I begin?

I guess where I last left off would be a good place to start.

Remember the beautiful couple from this post? Well, they held the wedding in a little sanctuary in the mountains. It's actually her father's property and I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this place is! He has taken several old, abandon homes and refinished them. They are all on one piece of property and they all share the most amazing forest of trees, swinging bridges, gazebos, two zip lines, bouncing spring swings, a Joey, and pathways from gazebo to gazebo.

It is the coolest place. My kids were in heaven!

Here are a couple of the lovely pictures.

The leaves have been falling like crazy too! My yard has been covered in leaves several times over. The kids absolutely love this time of year.

It couldn't have come at a better time. In the midst of a house full of sickies, I wandered out to grab a breath of fresh air and get the mail. I was so excited to see a package in the mail, but was surprised, because I wasn't expecting anything. I looked at the return address and saw my sweet sweet friend's name on it. It snowed yesterday.... It caked us with about 1/2 inch of the fluffy white stuff. The kids made a snowman and stomped around in it for a while. Then it melted and it was nothing but a muddy reminder. Keeping my fingers crossed for just a few more days of sunshine and less than frigid temperature.

I still have lots of fun fall pictures to share, but they had to be on the back burner, because I needed to get these photos edited first.

A snowflake I see?

Not quite, but it seems to be in the near future. The temperature has drastically dropped this past week as the wind has whipped through knocking all of the beautiful red and gold leaves from the trees. Fall is a beautiful time, but it always brings the chilling reminder that winter is near. I'm not ready for winter yet. The house is still only half painted, the wood is not chopped, and I'm not ready to be cold again.

Ok, now that I've complained, I can move on the fun part of winter. Hot chocolate and marshmallows, and Smores..............

It's bright... It's flirty... It's so much fun, you almost forget it's winter when you see it!

Little, T had so much fun with this photo shoot. I just have to share a few more pics with you, because she was such a little poser. My family will like this, since this is about the only time they get pictures of my kids anymore, lol.

I have just finished up the last of a huge order of my famous Incognito Wallets which will be sold at several Boutique Shows this fall!

So what to do now with all this time on my hands.............. not to worry, I have a stack of to do's left. Hubby just reminded me today that he is still patiently waiting for me to add some new music to his iPod oh and there is the ad graphics I promised my father in law, and on and on. Like I said, I won't be bored any time soon.

1. I am a total Star Wars junkie. I haven't always been, but my husband has managed to get me hooked, which is a good thing, because all of my children are addicted too.

2. I am terrified of heights. Just imagining being on the peak of a mountain gives me a feeling of Hyperventilation coming on. What's worse? My husband loves to climb, so I try to overcome it occasionally.

3. I am also terrified of haunted houses. I know, I know. Stupid huh? One time my husband had to drag me out of the emergency door in a haunted house because I had hyperventilated so much that I passed out. (that wasn't the first time I passed out in a haunted house either) The people in there love it too, because they see that I am so freaked out that they prey on me and scare me until I can't handle it anymore. Stupid huh?

6. I love reading Stephen King. I know after reading # 3 you are wondering where the connection failed. I think the touching and grabbing in the haunted house is actually what scares me more than the horror, because I love a good scary book or movie.

A sigh of relief.........

The kids are heading back to school tomorrow and that means that I will be down to 2 at home for a few hours a day. My 4 year old will be starting pre-school this year, so I hope that will help the two little ones bond more.

There are so many things I have needed to blog about, but unfortunately my blogging time always seemed to get filled with some other seemingly important event. So I will give you a quick rundown of the events over the past month and cram it all into one post.
